GoDaddy Custom Domain Setup, step-by-step

Learn how to setup a custom domain with your Posterous Space with GoDaddy. First, register an account and your desired domain name on GoDaddy. The tricky part is in setting up the correct values in the system. Here’s how to do it:

1. Login to your account from the GoDaddy homepage and then select Domain Management from the Domains section:

2. Then, click on the domain name you want to setup with a Posterous Space.

3. Click Launch under the DNS Manager section to launch the DNS manager.

Do not change any DNS name server settings. You only wan to change the A record (or CNAME record) for your domain.

4. With a fresh setup, your screen will have no A records set. If there are existing ones, you may have to delete them, or be sure to handle any conflicts intelligently. Click Add A New A Record.

5. Enter @ for the hostname and 184.106.20.102 for the IP Address. Then click OK. This is if you wanted yourdomain.com to point to your Posterous blog. You can also set a CNAME record to custom.posterous.com for ‘blog’ instead of setting the ‘@’ record here if you would like blog.yourdomain.com to point to Posterous instead.

6. Your setup should now look similar to this (we have enhanced the font size) for a standard custom domain setup for a Posterous Space.

It can take up to 24 hours for DNS changes to take effect. If your custom domain doesn’t begin working immediately, please wait at least 24 hours before troubleshooting DNS settings.

7. Back on Posterous, click Settings for your Space and click Edit next to the naming section and finally set your custom domain toyourdomain.com.
