Blog Autopost Support

Posterous can autopost to blogs that support the standard MetaWeblog API and Really Simple Discovery protocols. This includes blogs from Wordpress, Typepad, Movable Type, Squarespace, Xanga, and Drupal.

In general, you’ll need to supply the username and password to your blog to give us access to autopost to it. Different sites have different username conventions - sometimes it’s your email, sometimes it’s something else. Check below for site-specific instructions.

In addition, we also support blogs from Tumblr and Blogger which do not use the MetaWeblog protocol.

WordPress Direct

The username for Wordpress Direct isn’t the username you use to log in – it’s often something generic like ‘admin.’ To find out what your username is, visit your “Website Settings” page. Your username will be listed as “WordPress Username” in your Wordpress direct account.

Squarespace

Your Blog URL will be in the format “http://yourname.squarespace.com” and your username will be “yourname.”

Drupal
To autopost, make sure that you have enabled “Blog” and “Blog API” modules in your Drupal installation.

My Site isn’t mentioned. Can I still post?

If your site isn’t mentioned specifically, there’s still a good chance you can post to it. Just make sure that that the MetaWeblog or XML-RPC protocol is supported and enabled on your site.

If MetaWeblog is enabled, then your site should include an “EditURI” link in the HTML body. To check for this, just load up your site on a browser and search for “EditURI” in the source code. The EditURI line should look something like this:
