1. Getting Started with Posterous Spaces for iPhone
Posterous Spaces for iPhone makes it effortless to share your thoughts, photos, and videos from just about anywhere. When you first start up the application, after seeing a few introduction screens, you will be able to register a new account or login with your existing Posterous account. After logging in, you will see the home screen:

1. How do I share photos using Posterous Spaces?
You can share photos using Posterous Spaces by clicking New Post and then clicking Upload Media on the right side of the post composer or by adding photos in the gallery picker in the Posterous iPhone app.


Your photos are automatically added to a gallery, which you can customize or split by clicking on it when editing your post.

3. How do I disable the mobile theme?
You can disable the mobile theme for your Space’s visitors.
To do this, simply click Customize in the Settings dropdown for a Space.
Then click the Customize section on the left side and select the More Options tab.

Finally, check the box under Disable mobile theme and click “Save, I’m done!” at the bottom of the page to save your settings.

Adding Pages and Links
You can add static Pages or a list of links to external sites to your site by going to Spaces > Click the title of the Space you would like to add to > Clicking Pages and Links
Pages are designed to be static and are not designed to be posted to. They are ideal for an “About Me” or “About this Space” page that will be viewable when visitors visit your Space’s website.

Advanced Autopost Email Commands
Learn how to selectively post to multiple sites of the same type.
Do you have two Twitter/Facebook etc. accounts but you only want to autopost to one of them?
Email #text@posterous.com to send only to sites where the url contains that text.
For example, if you have twitter.com/apple and twitter.com/banana, you can email #apple@posterous.com to update apple but not banana. You can also combine services. #apple+facebook@posterous.com will post to twitter.com/apple and all your Facebook sites.

Getting started with Markdown
Markdown is a rich-text formatting language that allows more precise control over how text is presented on your Posterous.
You can use markdown in posts — you just have to make sure you click the HTML button in the post editor to go into raw HTML mode.

How do I add tags to my posts?
You can categorize the posts on your Space by adding tags either through email or on the post’s page itself.
Add tags in the subject of your email using the syntax ((tag: apple, gadgets)). The tag syntax will not show up in the title of your post, but your post will be tagged with the tags you include.

How do I change my timezone?
Changing your timezone in which your posts are published is easy.
1. Go to the Space Settings for the Space you wish change the timezone

2. Scroll down to the Commenting and Posting Section and click Edit

3. Using the dropdown box, choose your timezone and then click the Save Settings button

How do I change the header for my Space?
You can add a header image for your site for use with certain themes. To do this, click Customize in the Settings dropdown for your space.

Click the Customize section on the left and the Header Image tab:

Then click Choose File and select the image you would like as your header image.

How do I delete a Space?
To delete your Space, log in and follow these steps
- Click Spaces
- Find the Space you want to delete and use the pull-down menu to find the Delete Space option as shown below. There is no way to recover your space after you delete it so please be careful!

Please note that you cannot delete your Primary Space. You must assign another one of your Spaces as Primary first. If you wish to delete your account, please follow these directions-

How do I delete my account?
To Delete your account, log in:
1. Click Edit Profile on the left navigation
2. Click Account on the right side
3. Click Delete Account at the bottom of the page
This will delete all of your owned spaces and all posts associated with those spaces.

How do I edit a post's tag?
To edit a tag, edit a post and click Post options tab.

You can edit or add a tag for that particular post or remove them altogether. Posterous doesn’t currently offer batch tag editing, but will in a future release.

You can choose whether or not to display the Twitter and Retweet Facebook Like buttons.
Click Customize in the Settings dropdown for your space.

If you would like to remove the Facebook Like button but keep the Twitter Retweet button (or vice versa), you can customize your theme. Learn more about custom themes in Posterous.

How do I make my Space private?
To make your space private, click Spaces and click the dropdown settings menu across from the space whose privacy settings you would like to change.

Click Edit in the privacy section to change the privacy settings for your site. Note that you can only make spaces that are not your primary space private.

How do I make my whole Space private?
You can protect your whole Posterous site with a password. See the Privacy section by clicking Settings in the action dropdown from the Spaces section.
Be sure to save your settings by clicking Save Settings at the bottom of your page.
You can also set a seperate password for your Space. After you set a password, everyone visiting your site for the first time will be asked to input the password you selected to view the Space. Your visitors can set their browser to remember the password for subsequent visits. If you would like to reset this automatic site access -
How do I post a video?
You can post a video to your Posterous in several ways
If you have a video file, you can simply upload that video file using our Upload Media button in the web post composer. We’ll convert this video and make it optimized for web and mobile viewing.
If you are trying to embed a YouTube or Vimeo link, simply insert the link and we’ll automaticlly embed the video file for you to perfectly fit your theme’s width.

How do I post to my Space from multiple email addresses?
You can add additional email addresses to post from. To add additional email address to your Posterous account, click Edit Profile and then Account on the right side.

Note: Only enter email address which belong to you. If you would like to add a contributor for a group blog, go to the the Space section and Add Members in the dropdown across from the Space.
You will be able to post to your Posterous Space from any of the confirmed email addresses you enter.

How do I rename my Space or change its address?
You can change the name of your space or change it’s address on the web by clicking Spaces and then clicking the dropdown Settings menu across from the space’s settings you’d like to change. In the Setting section, click Edit across from Name your Space to change it’s name and location on the web.

How do I reverse the order of posts on my Space?
You can reverse the order of the posts on your Space (with the oldest post first) in your theme settings.
1. Click on “Spaces” in the top navigation bar
2. Go to the “Settings” dropdown for the space you want to change and click on “Customize”
3. Go to the “Customize” section on the left side and then find the “View posts in reverse” field on the “More Options” tab.

How do I save a post as a draft?
You can save a post as a draft by clicking Save when composing a post, clicking Cancel, then Save draft when composing a post in our mobile application, or by emailing draft@posterous.com.
At this time, drafts on the mobile app do not sync with the web interface. However, you can save as a private post to accomplish this and draft sycning will be available in a future update.

It’s simple to schedule your posts anytime in the future. When sending posts via email, just add the following tag to your subject line and type when you’d like your post to appear in plain, simple english. For instance, all of the following will work

How do I set up Autopost?
You can setup Autoposting for your Spaces to various social networks with the following simple steps.
1. Login to you account and click Spaces at the top of the screen. Choose “autopost setup” from the drop down menu across from the name of your Space or site.
2. Click the green “Add a service” button on the following screen.
3. Choose the type of autopost service you would like to connect with your Space from the provided box and follow the on-screen instructions to setup the connection.

It’s easy and free to setup a custom subdomain with your Posterous Space (e.g. blog.yoursite.com)

How does Autopost function for Private Spaces?
Posterous won’t Autopost if you site is set to private by design. This is to prevent links from being created on potentially public social networks and sites to content that is private. This also prevents the title of a private post from being posted publicly.

How to Add Google Analytics to your Space
You can use Google Analytics to see who is viewing your public Posterous Spaces.
All you have to do is follow these simple steps:
1. Sign up for Google Analytics here. Use your Posterous space URL. If you are using a custom domain, use that url instead.
2. Find the Google Analytics Domain ID for your site. This looks something like UA-123456-1.
3. Click Spaces » Space Settings » Analytics to set your Google Analytics Domain ID to that ID you found:

How to Autopost using Email
The username in the email address determines where your email gets Autoposted. The username is the part of the email address to the left of the “@” symbol.Normal posts created by emailing post@posterous.com autopost to all your other sites. You can also specify where you want to post via the email address you send to.
You can email to specific service types on your account. Do you want to update your Twitter but not your Facebook? You can do that.
• Email posterous@posterous.com if you don’t want Autopost at all.

How to create and manage galleries
To create a gallery, just email post@posterous.com with a more than one picture attached or upload multiple pictures using the Web Editor or Post.ly.
Galleries are a way to show all of your pictures to your Space’s viewers without having them scroll through each one and taking up screen estate that could be better used for other posts on your Space.
Galleries are automatically created by Posterous whenever you upload more than one picture to a post. You can modify galleries by editing a post from your Space and clicking on a gallery:

How to post by Email
When you send an email to Posterous, the domain you send the email to determines which Space it is posted on. The domain is the part of the email address to the right of the “@” symbol.
When you email post@posterous.com, your email will be published to the primary Space on your Posterous account. If you only have one Space, that’s your primary! If you have more than one, it’s the first one you created.
You can also choose which Posterous site to post to by using that Space address to the left of the “@” in the email address.

I can't post photos to my Spaces
To post media to your Space from the post editor, you must have Adobe Flash installed. To install Flash, click here.
Download the Flash Player installer (or install it from the pop up bar under your address bar if you’re using Internet Explorer) and double click the installer to install the Flash plugin. Restart your browser and when you create a post, the Media Upload button should function normally.

Managing Subscribers, Contributors, and Administrators for your Space
In the People tab, you can manage who you’d like to receive emails containing your new posts, who you’d like to contribute to your Space and who has complete control over your Space.
Subscribers are people who you want to receive your new posts via email. Adding someone as a subscriber is an effective way to ensure your latest posts are viewed by people who don’t visit your Space or group every day.

My Facebook Autopost stopped working
Sometimes, autoposting to Facebook may suddenly fail. This usually happens if you have changed your password on Facebook. When you change your password, Facebook severs all existing connections with external sites, so you need to re-add them.
This usually takes care of most Facebook autopost issues:
1. On Posterous, delete your Facebook autopost site by going to Space Settings, clicking the “Autopost” tab, then deleting Facebook.
2. Visit http://www.facebook.com/editapps.php
3. If you don’t see Posterous in the list, click “Authorized” in the dropdown, and see if it’s in the list there.
4. Click the blue “X” to delete the link

My post appears different from how I composed it
Differences in formatting can occur because of differences in the way some programs display your post and the HTML we display as your post on your Posterous Space. The conversion between the two is sometimes imperfect.
Instead of composing messages in a word processor and then copy and pasting it into your email client (or the Web Editor), we recommend composing your posts directly in your email client.

Setting up a custom domain for your Posterous Space

Setting up Posterous Spaces with a Third Party Registrar

Troubleshooting Custom Domains
Note: DNS is heavily cached and changes could take up to 24 hours to take effect. It is recommended you wait this long after the initial set-up before troubleshooting any errors.

Troubleshooting Facebook Pages
Posterous supports posting to Facebook Pages. However, there is an additional step required for Autopost for Facebook Pages to function properly.
Follow the steps here to reset your Facebook Autopost.
Note: Be sure to add the Facebook Profile that is the administrator for the Facebook Page as an Autopost destination before you add the Facebook Page. You are not required to post to both, but the profile must be added for Autopost for Facebook Pages to function properly.

Troubleshooting WordPress Imports
Sometimes WordPress doesn’t properly encapsulate HTML within it’s XML export file, which is what Posterous uses to import your WordPress blog. To improve the reliability of the import, you can run your WordPress export file through Tidy, which can fix errors within the file.
1. To get started, go to Tidy and then upload your WordPress export file by clicking Choose file.

Understanding Facebook Autopost Settings
Posterous Autoposts to Facebook in a number of ways. There are several options you can set that will change the way Posterous autoposts to Facebook. Using the Posterous Bookmarklet, you can post about interesting, funny, or shareworthy things as you surf the web. Click here and follow the instructions on the page to drag the Share on Posterous link to your browser’s bookmark bar.
You can then click it on any website and it will automatically grab an excerpt from the site you are browsing on and allow you to add a comment and then post it to the space of your choice.

What is a guest post?
Guest posts are posts submitted by non-members of that Space. Each Space has its own designated posting email. For instance, blog.posterous.com can be posted to by emailing blog@posterous.com or post@blog.posterous.com.
If you allow guest posting, anyone who emails that email will have the ability to submit a post to your Space with your approval.
You can find unmoderated guest posts in your Dashboard and choose to Approve or Delete them.
